Even if you don’t realize it, there are actually few companies that completely function on their own. Be it a small business or a huge corporation, chances are they are outsourcing a certain part of their operations to a business process outsourcing or BPO company.

Outsourcing services to a BPO company became a common practice among businesses. As with any practice, however, there are pros and cons to using them. The key to maximizing the benefits of outsourcing is knowing when you should outsource and what exactly you should outsource.

Choose the tasks you should outsource

Consider which type of task would be more cost-effective for your business. Learn the benefits of outsourcing a certain task and ensure that the quality of your product or service won’t be affected.

Critical Tasks

There are three types of tasks that you can outsource: critical tasks, commodity tasks, and executive-level tasks. Critical tasks are those that are important to ensure a smooth operation but are not exactly part of the main business strategy.

For example, your business involves selling dairy products. Delivering your products to clients is essential, but it is not vital to your business: your product won’t be affected whether or not you outsource your delivery service.

Commodity Tasks

Commodity tasks, on the other hand, refer to peripheral tasks, such as customer service or cleaning services. These tasks are not necessary for the main parts of the business but are needed to run the business. Most businesses choose to outsource this type of task, as it can reduce unnecessary costs for the business.

Executive-Level Tasks

You might want to consider outsourcing executive-level tasks instead. For many businesses, especially smaller ones, outsourcing executive-level positions such as chief financial officers and chief marketing officers can be a great solution.

Instead of simply outsourcing a single type of task, hiring someone for the position can mean a number of tasks will be operated offshore. Such a move can prove to be more cost-efficient for your business.

Do you want to complete more tasks without expanding your in-house team and spending more on overhead costs? It may be time to outsource some services.
